America’s Weirdest MuseumsPosted on 2020-07-16
Road trip warriors, take heed: You can see great works of art and priceless artifacts from history in just about any of this country’s major metropolitan areas, but how many places can offer you the chance to see a collection of nearly a thousand Pez dispensers, including the world’s largest at seven feet, 20 inches? Only one: the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia in Burlingame, California. The United States is home to plenty of unusual museums, specializing in less than earth-shaking works. Here’s a few to check out on your charter bus travels.
International UFO Museum and Research Center: If your city was only known for one thing, you’d milk it too, and Roswell, New Mexico is still UFO crazy even some 60 years later. This museum posits it was indeed extra terrestrial spacecraft people saw over Roswell that stormy night in 1947, and it has the displays, memorabilia and gift shop to back it up.
Washington Banana Museum: Did you know there are thousands of species of banana, even though Americans typically only eat only one, very specifically cultivated strain? If that whet your appetite for more banana-related facts, antiques and other memorabilia, visit the Banana Museum in Auburn, Washington. You’ll find more vintage adverts, art and other curiosities than you can shake a banana at. Probably more bad puns too.
